There are two categories of CBSDs: Category A CBSDs and Category B CBSDs.
Category A CBSDs are the access points that can be used indoors or outdoors. These access points can be installed by a user or an authorized associate or employee of the user. The transmission EIRP for Category A CBSDs is limited to 30 dBm per 10 MHz Channel bandwidth. They must be installed by a CPI in following scenarios:
- If installed outdoors at a HAAT (Height Above Average Terrain) > 6 m
- If the CBSD is not capable of automatically determining its position (i.e. GPS) within required horizontal and vertical accuracies.
Category B CBSDs are installed outdoors and must be installed by a CPI (Certified Professional Installer). The maximum allowed EIRP for these CBSDs is limited to 47 dBm per 10 MHz Channel bandwidth.
